Vietnam is on the move and so is Hanoi. During the development it faces too many problems, one of them is transportation. Every big city has its own problems but it is more serious in Hanoi. It is very common to see the traffic jams around the city even in non-rush hours. Small roads are thought to be the reason for this problem. However, low awareness of local people makes it extremely serious. The Authority has given many measures to solve this problem but all their efforts have almost failed.
Nowadays, more and more people from other provinces pour into Hanoi to get a job or find a better life, which also makes the problem worse. Many of those do not know or know little about the traffic laws or ignore it intentionally. Meetings are held to find the solution but none of them seems to be effective.
Transportation in Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular has become a big challenge. It is an obstacle to the development of the economy, a cause of pollution, health problems and accidents. It shall be worse if no one is willing to build up a good community or guide others to do the same.
Students and working people are both encouraged to use buses as a means of transport. Recently the number of people using public transport has considerably increased. Free bus is also being considered to encourage people not to use their personal vehicles. However, small roads have prevented the authority carrying out some plans that help lessen the seriousness and pressure of the transportation. "It can not be solved in one day" admitted the authority.
