What to Do at Disney World's Magic Kingdom When It's Raining

Depending on the time of year, rain will be a factor in your Disney vacation. Florida's rainy season runs typically from May to October. In August, for example, you can expect rain every day. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy your time at the Magic Kingdom, you just have to be prepared.

Check the Weather Forecast.

Seems simple doesn't it? It's an easy thing to do forget when you're on vacation and expecting 'sunny' Florida. If rain is expected, bring ponchos (don't be suckered into buying expensive Mickey ponchos, go to your local dollar store before your trip and pick up a bunch there), bring plastic to cover up a stroller while you're on a ride. In general, it's a good idea to have two pairs of shoes on your trip so that if you get caught in the rain the wet pair have a day to dry.

Explore Extra Time Taking Indoor Attractions.

There are many indoor attractions that can help you ride out a storm. Tomorrow Land Transit Authority, Stitch's Great Escape, The Laugh Floor Comedy Club, the Hall of Presidents, Country Bear Jamboree, Mickey's Philharmagic, the Liberty Bell River boat, The Haunted Mansion - that's a lot of places to stay dry! If you've checked the weather forecast and you know there's going to be a chance of rain, keep a mental list of these places. This will allow you to make a quick decision. Rain comes fast and hard in Florida, and time spent trying to figure out where to go will be time spent wet.

Another thing to remember is that rain tends to scatter the crowds, particularly in the afternoon. People assume that once the rain starts, it's not going to stop. If you can wait out a storm, you'll find less people to fight through and fewer line ups. A great vacation bonus.

Did you know there are stores at Disney?

Shopping is an excellent activity to partake in as the rain pours down. A super tip: did you know the stores on Main Street are interconnected? You can walk inside from Casey's right down to almost the front gate. Great for an easy escape after the nightly fireworks, or if you're trying to occupy time during a storm.

Enjoy the Rain!

Remember you're on vacation. It's a time to do things you wouldn't do at home and most importantly it's a time to have fun. If the temperature is warm and you and your family don't mind getting a little wet, why not splash in the puddles, dance in the rain, and race over to Splash Mountain where you won't mind getting soaked. This is an activity that's probably best enjoyed when you're about to leave the park and will be able to put on dry clothes in the near future.

Rain can spoil the mood pretty quickly, not everyone likes grey days and walking around in damp, wet clothes. The more you're prepared for a rain delay, the easier it will be to keep the magic alive at the Magic Kingdom.
